You can improve somebody's life.

Someone depends on you.

Regional Training ‘Care for Older People,’ March 27-29, 2024, Sutomore

As part of the regional training ‘Care for Older People,’ volunteers from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, including representatives from the Red Cross local branches of Kolašin, Nikšić, Rožaje, Plav, Bar, and Berane, enhanced their knowledge and skills. During the training, participants covered key topics such as understanding aging, family relationships, the role of volunteers, effective communication, and first aid.

The special significance of this training lies in preparing volunteers to provide higher-quality support to the older people. Better-trained volunteers can more effectively address the specific needs of older people, whether it involves practical assistance with daily activities, emotional support, or reducing feelings of isolation. Their improvement directly impacts the quality of life for the older poeple in their communities.

These volunteers will be involved in the ‘Volunteer Support for the older people’ service, in which they will regularly visit older individuals in their communities, assist them with daily tasks, act as a connection to the community, offer support, and provide companionship. This type of support plays a key role in reducing social isolation and improving the overall well-being of older people.

Anja Draganić, 25 years old, Master’s in Sociology, volunteer at the Red Cross Nikšić

Since 2024, I have been doing an internship at the Red Cross Nikšić, and I am also a volunteer within the organization. The seminar on ‘Care for Older people,’ held from September 27 to 29, 2024, was extremely educational, providing valuable information on how to improve the quality of life of older people. The seminar met all my expectations, and I was especially impressed by the group activities where each participant had the opportunity to express their opinion, which significantly contributed to the diversity and substance of the work. I want to be a volunteer in the Home Care program because I believe that older people deserve attention, support, and respect. I see volunteer work as a way to provide them with warmth, help, and a sense of not being alone. I envision my own old age as a period filled with love, activity, and calm, surrounded by family and friends, with a sense of usefulness and connection to the community.’

We fight for a better world.
