Basic first aid course is consisted of 15 classes that include theory and practice. Trainers are health workers assisted by volunteers with long experience in this area. Programme foresees training on how to stop bleeding, how to swathe someone, immobilize the person, treat the open and closed fracture, burns, what should you do with unconscious persons, CPR… Also, there are additional courses for the organizations and special courses for the trainers.

Montenegro Red Cross conducts first aid training in the City RC organization Podgorica and in every local RC branch in Montenegro. Trainings are organized in primary and high schools, on the faculties, business organizations, namely everywhere where there is interest for this programme activity. Great number of volunteers, health and education workers, and youth volunteers who participated in numerous seminars, national and international competitions create solid base for implementing first aid programme.

Participants in the trainings (youth from primary and high school) have the opportunity to show the knowledge they gained on the municipal and National competition of the Red Cross First aid teams. Winners of the municipal competitions participate in the National competition, and the winner of the National competition has the right to participate. The competition is conducted in the category of youngsters (primary school) and youth (high school and faculty).

Montenegro Red Cross has great cooperation with Austrian Red Cross, regarding first aid. At the moment, we are creating unique first aid manual which will be used at the national level for the training of volunteers. The manual will be designed for the basic first aid training, while the second one will be designed for the trainers. We plan to create a specific manual for the drivers of motor vehicles, who will be trained by Montenegro Red Cross in the near future.

A good cooperation is established with the Emergency ambulance service, so Montenegro Red Cross sent its first aid teams to many sports and cultural events (e.g. Madonna’s concert, world league in waterpolo).
